An extremely rare Anglo Saxon penny of Coenwulf King of Mercia 796-821 AD.

This coin has been recorded with the EMC at the FitzWilliam Museum, Cambridge. EMC number 2008.0014.

 Only 6 coins of this type and moneyer have been recorded.

The obverse shows a diademed bust of Coenwulf right +COENVVLF REX M.

The reverse PO / d / E / L+ around lozenge with cross at each angle .

The coin has been professionally straightened and has a slight crease between 8 and 12 o'clock on obverse.

 It is none the less an extremely rare coin and would grace any collection.
